What is a Global Scope of Accreditation?
A nationwide calibration service provider, like Transcat, has multiple locations, each of which has its own individual ISO-17025 accreditation. The accreditation yields a certificate, which is the official document that proves the lab has passed the assessment process performed by an ILAC-traceable Accrediting Body (ILAC-AB).
The accreditation certificate must always be accompanied by the approved scope of accredited parameters. The scope lists all of the lab’s capabilities—at least the ones that have been assessed by the AB and approved for publication to illustrate the lab’s Calibration & Measurement Capabilities (CMC). Each measurement parameter on the scope indicates the lab’s best measurement uncertainty for the parameter. Additionally, the lab standards that were used in obtaining the measurement parameter are also listed.
For clients or for Transcat employees who need to search for a specific accredited capability and determine which lab(s) can support the target parameter(s), or to see the lab’s CMC value, searching through each individual scope is not very efficient. In addition, due to inconsistencies in the scope’s formatting as displayed on the AB’s website, some individual scopes are unable to make use of the ‘search’ feature in Adobe® Acrobat® in order to quickly find what you need. That’s why we’ve assembled a packaged Adobe® document that is searchable at once for ALL Transcat labs. We’ve taken the extra step to run these scopes through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and then combined these into one package to create a text-searchable Global Scope of Accreditation for all Transcat labs.
How do I use the Global Scope?
Please note that the features of this combined Adobe® Acrobat® .pdf package are only available with the correct version (Adobe® Acrobat® Standard version 8 or higher). Basically, most newer computers (<2 yrs. old) have the correct version, while older computers may not, unless an upgrade to Adobe® Acrobat® has been purchased. You’ll know if you have an older version because the packaged document will be separated into individual documents and the first one will have a blank page, rather than one combined, packaged .pdf. If this is the case, unfortunately you will not be able to take advantage of the Global Scope of Accreditation until you have the current version of Adobe® Acrobat®.
When you open the document, it will open with the Bookmark tab open. You will be able to click on any lab’s certificate or scope. You can also search across all the pages using the built in search function in Adobe. Hit the "Ctrl" key and the letter "F" key at the same time (simultaneously) - A little pop-up window will appear. Enter the term you wish to search for i.e. “temperature”. Adobe will match the first occurrence it finds. You can use the Previous and Next buttons to move to the next occurrence.
You will also be able to use the “Advanced Search” feature. To execute this, Hit the "Ctrl" and “Shift” key and the letter "F" key at the same time (simultaneously) – Another window will appear. As an example, a search for the term “weight” yields a result indicating that there are 69 instances of this phrase throughout the package. The best part of this search feature is that you can expand any of the search results, select one of the ‘instances’ that contain the searched phrase, and it will take you right to that ‘instance’ for that lab while retaining your search results window so that you can continue to look at other instances from the search result. Without this feature, it’s more difficult to move back and forth between search results and keep track of which lab’s results are currently being displayed. Note: The Search window may disappear behind the main window, but is still available in your task bar.
Use Transcat’s Global Scope of Accreditation with Adobe® Acrobat® Option-Search feature for ease of use and efficiency in determining lab capabilities and comparison of CMC’s between labs.
